Nothing beats an early Sunday morning car meet up. The Gippsland Sporting and Classic Car Register organises a monthly breakfast meet-up in Warragul, and we thought we would check it out!
This independent car club caters for the needs of owners and enthusiasts of Sporting and Classic Cars who reside in the Gippsland area of Victoria. A section of a Supermarket car park in Warragul’s main street was filled with an eclectic mix of vintage, classic and modern machinery.
Utilising a Volkswagen Beetle chassis with Fibreglass body this Purvis Eureka certainly stood out. Ease of access- check.
Further inspection revealed an eye-catching interior. It reminds me of Back to the Future. A total of 683 Eureka models were produced by the Australian company from 1974 to 1991.
At a complete contrast and from a different world, this vintage Hispano-Suiza also drew lots of admiration. I wonder if the drilled out metal seats are heated, can massage or contain airbags?
A gleaming F100 Ford truck. Lowered with some subtle modifications, this old pick-up oozed character.
Triumph TR7 ready for a rally stage.
Its predecessor, the TR6 was finished here in glossy British racing green, the perfect combination with its gold mini-lites. The TR6 is great performer, powered by a inline, fuel-injected 6.
One of our favourite classics at Driven Threads is the Corvette Stingray. An aggressive body style that is truly timeless. You only need to see our previous blog posts to see the many Stingrays that we have previously captured.
I’m sure more Stingray pictures will feature in 2013.
This turbo RX7 looked to be track-prepped and ready to hit it hard on the tarmac. We’ve seen this car at numerous racing meets. How fun it would be driving this thing on the street!
Alot of the vehicles at the meet were red plate vehicles on the club permit scheme. This scheme allows owners of cars over the age of 25 years to use their vehicles via a log book system to club events. With the cost of full registration on Victoria’s roads going sky high, it is definitely the way to go if you do not intend on driving your older car daily.
An excellent range of cars were displayed.

The unmistakeable and classic lines of the MGA are always appealing.
A clean E36 M3 in one of the best colours. Launched in 1992, it’s hard to believe that these cars are now more than 20 years old. Sporting a lowered stance, their crisp and simple lines still look great on the road today.
A surprise was this very tidy and angular 1977 Lancia Montecarlo. The Montecarlo is powered by a mid-engined twin-cam 2 litre. Childhood Memories of religiously watching Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo came flooding back, as it featured the US version of the same car as Herbie’s love interest.
A couple of lazy cats; XJ6’s.
This Ford V8 Coupe was wonderfully presented.
When the Ford flathead V8 engine was introduced in 1932, it was a revolutionary design being the first 8-cylinder, the first V8, and the first V engine to become available to a mass market.
The attention to detail on this Coupe was stunning. I loved the red reflector covers on the side mirrors.
Another attention grabbing car was the Fiat Dino.
This Dino Coupe was a later model featuring the larger 2.4 Litre V6 version.
The “Dino” story is well-known. But the significance of these cars means they are highly regarded by enthusiasts. The Coupé design is by Bertone. The 2.4 litre Fiat Dino’s are rarer than the 2.0, and were assembled by Ferrari at Maranello alongside the 246s.
We love our Z cars at Driven Threads.
Another icon of Motoring was in attendance. This type 35-Derivative Bugatti was the definitive crowd favourite. The car was surrounded by people for the duration of the meet. Both young and old, can appreciate the engineering and design of a Bugatti.
The raw sound of the car was exhilarating. The French flag proudly displayed on the side of the elegant bodywork.
Classics need to get used. This Austin Healey 3000 sure looks like it does. Built from 1959-1967 the Big healey’s are one of the most sought after open classics.
Among the vintage crop of sporting cars, the Toyota 86 was a sign of Modernity. Sporting some enhanced aero, if this is the future of sports cars….the future is looking bright.
